Morales was born in Guatemala and grew up in Tikal, a Classic Maya city partly uncovered from the rainforest. He learned to walk under majestic Ceiba trees and eventually to climb upon the mountainous Maya temples. As a teenager he made his way to the United States. He has an undergraduate degree in biology and a graduate degree in Hispanic literature and linguistics. He worked as an assistant to sculptors for many years before opening his own studio. His understanding of art, history and the importance of storytelling is rooted in these experiences.
His sculptural work often consists of zoömorphic forms suggestive of pre-modern sculpture, Mickey Mouse and science fiction robots. He aims to challenge, expand and share his understanding of cultural identity.
Morales’s work can be seen in outdoor public venues, and museums throughout the Midwest. His work is included in various private collections throughout the Americas.
